Former pro baseball player Sam "Mayday" Malone enjoys a playboy lifestyle as the proprietor of the neighborhood hangout, assisted by his befuddled bartender, Coach, and his surly waitress, Carla. You will also get to know a young teaching assistant, Diane Chambers, who suddenly finds herself jilted, jobless and hired as Sam's newest waitress, and two of the regulars, Norm, owner of the largest bar tab and know-it-all, Cliff.
