"These folktales are a unique product of the region they convey to readers: Dhofar. Dhofar is a province in the Sultanate of Oman, located at the southeastern end of the Arabian Peninsula. These stories are inextricably bound up in the atmosphere, history, and cultural conditions of Dhofar and the generations that told these stories in their own time. The concepts developed in these stories are products of the social life in the region, stretching across all levels of society, telling the stories of the lives of the poorest pauper and the wealthiest and most powerful ruler. Local trades and the economic development particular to this time also play a prominent role in the development of the narrative.
