Today's Israel is a strikingly modern country, yet still greatly affected by the past. Personal identity is a strong force in Israel. The ethnic and religious backgrounds of its citizens combine in multiple ways to create a wildly diverse population. These identities often come together in celebration, but they clash, too. Despite Israel's inner and external turmoil, its people continue to work hard to keep the Middle East's lone stable democracy flourishing. |
