ABOUT THE BOOK AND AUTHOR

The Iron Heel is a dystopian novel that was written by Jack London (1876-1916) and was first published in 1908. It is considered to be an early example of modern dystopian fiction and has been argued that Jack London's socialist views are in this novel.

It chronicles the rise of American oligarchy tyranny and the struggles of a socialist revolutionary movement. Much of the setting is in San Francisco Bay area.

Jack London was a prolific writer of novels, short stories, non-fiction, autobiographical memoirs, plays and more. Some of his most famous works include The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea Wolf, The Iron Heel, Martin Eden and The People of the Abyss.
