Enhanced descriptions from Syndetics:

An elderly mother flees the suffocating grasp of her overprotective son, and sets out on a life-affirming journey to her picturesque hometown in this adaptation of the Tony-nominated play by Horton Foote. Carrie Watts (Cicely Tyson) may be old, but she's still sharp as a tack and resents the living arrangement she shares with her adult son Ludie and his snobbish wife Jessie Mae. The isolation of living in their home eventually becoming too much to bear, Carrie asks Ludie to take her on a trip back to Bountiful, the town where she grew up. When Ludie refuses, his frustrated mother flees to the local bus station and strikes up a conversation with a young woman named Thelma (Keke Palmer). Later, when Ludie and Jessie Mae seek the help of the local police in bringing Carrie back home, they soon learn that the resourceful old woman is more determined than they thought, and that she some powerful friends who are willing to help her reach her destination.
