Patricia Polacco, born to parents of Russian extraction, comes from a large family of storytellers. Many of Ms. Polacco's stories are based on family history. Ms. Polacco has studied in both the United States and Australia, receiving both a bachelor's and a master's degree in fine art and a Ph. D. in art history, specializing in Russian and Green painting and iconographic history.
